Increased fighting in Congo

The fierce fighting between the government and the M23 -backed M23 rebels broke out in the city of Goma, the largest center in Eastern Congo.

According to Reuters, the explosions and gunfire rang out on the night of 12.4 to the morning of April 13, causing panic in the community. A resident said: "We were sleeping when we heard many bullets from different weapons, including grenade launchers."

After fighting temporarily, this person said that at least 5 people were injured and 3 fighters were killed, seemingly belonging to the M23 force.

The Congo government in a statement on the evening of April 12 said that 52 people were killed in and around Goma, although this figure has not been verified independently. The statement is also responsible for the M23 rebel group.

Meanwhile, M23 spokesman, Mr. Willy Ngoma, published on social network X that "peace has returned" in Goma after a "provocative action" from the Congo army and the Military Military group named Wazalendo.

The leader of Wazalendo, Jules Mulumba, confirmed that the group had participated and said that fighting was a reaction to the attacks of the Rwanda -backed force that happened last week.

A Congo army general also accused Wazalendo responsible for this violent outbreak. The statement from Wazalendo emphasized their actions to respond to the previous attacks of the M23 armed group.

The United Nations and many Western countries accused Rwanda for providing weapons and soldiers to the M23 group, which was led by Tutsi. However, Rwanda denied the allegations, saying that the military only acted to defend the Congo army and a group of Rwanda armed armed in the eastern region - the group was thought to be established by the Rwanda genocide.

In the midst of escalating tensions, the government of President Felix TshiseKedi and M23 sent delegations to Doha to participate in peaceful negotiations by Qatar as an intermediary, in the hope of achieving a ceasefire agreement.

The rapid attack of M23 this year has killed thousands of civilians, hundreds of thousands of people to evacuate, and help this group control most of the eastern border areas of Congo - a land rich in resources such as tin, gold and coltan.
