As of 1:30 p.m. on January 6, Vietnam time, the US election vote count showed that the Republican Party won 51 seats and the Democratic Party won 41 seats in the Senate.
Thus, with an absolute majority of 51 seats, the Republican Party regained control of the Senate from the Democratic Party.
The most important seat is in Nebraska, where Fox News has predicted incumbent Republican Sen. Deb Fischer to defeat independent challenger Dan Osborn.
It is still unclear who will be the next Senate majority leader. Republican leader Mitch McConnell, the longest-serving Senate leader in history, announced earlier this year that he would step down.
This is the first victory for the Republican Party since the party lost its majority in the US Senate in 2021.
The newly elected senators will be sworn in early January 2025, before the inauguration of the 47th president-elect of the United States on January 20, 2025.
As of 1:30 p.m. on November 6, Vietnam time, the Republican Party is also leading the race in the US House of Representatives, with 191 out of 435 seats, while the Democratic Party has 161 seats.
Along with the US presidential election on November 5, US voters also re-elected all 435 members of the House of Representatives, 34 out of 100 members of the Senate, governors in 15 states and held referendums on some contents in 7 states.
The results of these elections are also very important because they directly affect the new president's rule.
