According to Xinhua, the death toll in the earthquakes that hit Venezuela on June 24 (local time) has increased to 1,430 people, Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said on June 28.
Speaking on state television, Mr. Rodriguez said that 3,238 people were injured and 3,142 families were affected by the disaster.
According to the latest government update on the national state of emergency, after two strong earthquakes with magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, Venezuela recorded 430 aftershocks from mild to moderate, Mr. Rodriguez said.
On behalf of the Venezuelan authorities, Mr. Rodriguez sent his deepest condolences to thousands of victims of this natural disaster. He said that tens of thousands of people are still working day and night in search and rescue operations.
