RT reported that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has just released detailed information and videos about attacks targeting a series of Syrian military naval assets in the context of Damascus falling into the hands of opposition groups and the collapse of President Bashar al-Assad's government.
On the evening of December 10 (local time), the IDF announced that Israeli warships had fired missiles at the ports of Latakia and Al-Bayda within 48 hours. There were 15 Syrian naval vessels anchored at the ports during the attacks.
“We destroyed dozens of anti-ship missiles with ranges from 80 to 190 kilometers,” the IDF wrote on social network X, posting a video of the attack on the unidentified ships.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had authorized the IDF to “bomb the remaining strategic weapons systems of the Syrian army to prevent them from falling into the hands of the jihadists.” The Israeli army had earlier advanced from the Golan Heights deeper into Syria, expanding the territory it had occupied since 1967.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that the IDF intends to establish an absolutely safe defense zone in southern Syria to prevent the opposition from taking advantage of the chaos and putting the Jewish State at risk.
Arab states and Türkiye have condemned Israel's actions, with Saudi Arabia saying the IDF's actions are adding to instability in the war-torn country.
