The attack took place on September 18 (local time) after Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced a "new phase" in Israel's war against Hamas in Gaza and pro-Palestinian militants in Lebanon.
According to the IDF, warplanes struck a rocket launcher and several buildings used by Hezbollah fighters in Jebbayn, Haltam Kafr Kila, Odaisseh and Chama (Lebanon).
The IDF also posted a video of the airstrikes.
The airstrikes came after "approximately 20 projectiles were detected flying from Lebanon" into the country's northernmost territory, known as Upper Galilee, CNN reported.
The IDF said it intercepted "several projectiles" and no casualties were reported.
Hezbollah said it had attacked several Israeli military sites in northern Israel with rockets throughout September 18. The Iran-backed militant group described the attacks as in support of Palestinians in Gaza.
The group also announced the deaths of at least 11 members on September 18 but did not provide details.
Israeli political and defense officials say the IDF will shift its efforts toward the northern border in a "new phase" of the war.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, IDF Commander-in-Chief Herzi Halevi and other officials all made statements on the evening of September 18, seemingly implying that an all-out war with Hezbollah was underway, hours after a series of explosions of walkie-talkies and other communications equipment used by Hezbollah members across Lebanon caused widespread casualties, similar to a series of pager explosions a day earlier.
Lebanon's Ministry of Health updated the latest figures saying that at least 20 people were killed and 450 others were injured in explosions of electronic equipment on September 18.
Meanwhile, pager explosions on September 17 killed at least 12 people and injured 2,800.
During more than 11 months of fighting with Hamas in Gaza, Israel has unleashed near-daily cross-border fire on Hezbollah forces in Lebanon, although it has largely avoided escalating into a full-scale war, as it focuses its efforts on the south.
However, 26 civilians in Israel and 20 IDF soldiers were killed in Hezbollah attacks near the northern border, while more than 450 Hezbollah members were reported killed, as well as more than 100 civilians in Lebanon.
“I believe we are entering a new phase in this fight and we need to adapt. This fight requires great courage, determination and perseverance,” added Secretary Gallant.
