The Chinese online community is outraged after domestic media broke up the coverage of a series of sensitive and secretly filmed photos of Chinese women being shared publicly in chat groups on the Telegram platform.
Accordingly, the Telegram chat group called MaskPark tree hole forum shared a series of photos of women being secretly filmed at locations such as public toilets, with more than 100,000 anonymous users inside and outside China participating. Some people even posted private photos of their ex-girlfriends and female relatives in the family, even advertising for sale of secret videos filmed with micro-cess cameras installed in items such as incense.
One victim said that her ex-boyfriend secretly filmed the scene of the relationship and spread the image to the chat group, along with her social media information without her consent. She only discovered the incident through an anonymous person's warning.
The incident attracted great attention on the Weibo platform, with related hashtags receiving more than 270 million views. Many users described the incident as "terrifying" and showed that secret filming had penetrated daily life.
Ms. Huang Simin - an expert handling cases of sexual violence - warned that such acts are spreading and users feel helpless in the current legal system. According to her, filming women secretly without porniculture is only subject to a minor administrative penalty, a maximum of 10 days in detention and a fine of 500 yuan (1.8 million VND).
Some other Chinese chat groups on Telegram also had prostitution content and up to 900,000 members were also discovered. Although the main group MaskPark has been removed, many sub-groups are still active.
Telegram said that sharing porous content without consensus violates service terms and the platform proactively removes millions of harmful content every day. However, because Telegram is encrypted and stored abroad, Chinese authorities have difficulty handling it.
The incident reminded netizens of the " Nth room" scandal in Korea - where Telegram chat groups used to blackmail and force women, including minors, to share sensitive photos. Many opinions say that the danger of "MaskPark" is even more sophisticated and popular.
