RT reported that speaking at her first press conference in her new position, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said that the Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an agency established by President Donald Trump and headed by billionaire Elon Musk, discovered this expense during the administration of President Joe Biden.
“This is an incredible waste,” Leavitt criticized, revealing that President Donald Trump’s administration is also cutting $37 million from the World Health Organization (WHO), an organization that Trump does not want the US to continue funding.
Previously, the US State Department ordered a freeze on almost all foreign aid programs for 90 days, while the US Agency for International Development (USAID) also announced it would stop funding non-governmental organizations.
However, former State Department official Andrew Miller called the White House’s claim of $50 million “absurd.” He said the money could have gone to reproductive health services in general, not just condoms.
According to AFP, USAID has allocated $60 million in fiscal year 2023 for contraceptives globally, not just in Gaza, which has about 2 million residents.
Notably, in 2018, the Israeli military accused Hamas militants in Gaza of using balloons made from… condoms to launch explosives across the border. This left the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confused about the origin of these condoms, as the WHO denied supplying them to Gaza.
