RT reported that Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that the public confrontation between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on February 28 at the White House clearly exposed Kiev's stance.
Szijjarto wrote on Facebook that the heated debate at the Oval Office has clearly shown the sides' stance on peace or continued war, as well as each side's approach to human losses and financial costs. He also cited US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who called the meeting a serious mistake.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister said Zelensky was the one who wanted the conflict to continue, praising Trump's stance, calling it "the greatest moment in three years".
Szijjarto said that Budapest always calls for a diplomatic solution and hopes that Mr. Trump will reach a successful deal with Russia.
According to the Hungarian diplomat, only a US-Russia deal can bring peace to Central Europe in particular and all of Europe in general.
This view was also emphasized by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in a letter to European Council President Antonio Costa on March 1.
Mr. Orban said that the EU's " peace through strength" strategy is unrealistic, and called for direct dialogue with Russia as the US has done in the recent past to seek a ceasefire and sustainable peace in Ukraine.
Mr Zelensky's visit to the White House was cut short after his meeting with the US President and Vice President turned into a heated debate in front of the press, RT also reported.
Trump and J.D. Vance accused the Ukrainian leader of betting on World War III for not being ready for peace talks with Russia, and criticized him as disrespectful and ungrateful despite Washingtons significant military aid to Kiev.
The meeting was expected to end with a mineral deal between the US and Ukraine, but in the end, no documents were signed. Zelensky's determination to demand more security and involvement from the Trump administration has ruined negotiations.
On the Moscow side, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called Zelensky's trip to the US a "diplomatic and political failure" by the Kiev government.
She also reiterated Moscow's stance that a lasting peace can only be achieved "when the root causes of the conflict are completely eliminated".
