The US aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson arrived in Busan City, South Korea on March 2, the South Korean Navy said.
The visit is part of a commitment to maintain expanded deterrence, affirming the readiness of the military alliance between Seoul and Washington to respond to threats from North Korea.
Along with USS Carl Vinson, the combat group of aircraft carrier No. 1 also includes the USS Princeton cruiser missile cruiser and the USS Sterett cruiser missile cruiser.
The visit marks the first time a US aircraft carrier has arrived in South Korea since June last year, when the nuclear carrier Theodore Roosevelt was also present in Busan to participate in joint exercises. Previously, in November 2023, USS Carl Vinson also docked at Busan.
Amid rising tensions, North Korean state media reported that leader Kim Jong-un supervised a strategic cruise missile test last month and ordered the placement of nuclear forces in a state of complete combat readiness.
