President Joe Biden, 79, told World News Tonight host David Muir on ABC News on December 22 that he would welcome a rematch with former President Donald Trump.
If I had the health I have now I have good health I would have actually ran for re-election. I am a person who believes in fate. Fate has interfered in my life many times. I believe fate will give me a second term, President Biden said.
The US leader also said that the rematch with the opponent in 2020 increased the possibility of him being re-elected.
"Now you are trying to tempt me. Why didn't I fight Donald Trump if he was nominated? That will increase the chances of a run, Biden said.
Donald Trump, 75, will also be 80 if he wins a second non-consecutive term in the 2024 US presidential election.
Also in the interview, Mr. Biden said that the US response to Omicron variants was not a "failure", but it was a pity that millions of free COVID-19 rapid test sets were not placed for Americans two months ago.
Nothing is good enough. But look, look, look where we are. When last Christmas, we were in a significantly less vaccination situation, the emergency rooms were full," Biden said.
On December 21, President Biden announced plans to buy 500 million home COVID-19 testing packages and distribute them for free next month. He said the government should prepare better to fight variants that are highly contagious.
The president stressed that about 200 million Americans have been fully vaccinated, saying that repeat vaccination and re-sharking are still the best protection against Omicron variants.
