“Iran has agreed to never possess nuclear weapons. Besides, the story that the US is paying Iran 300 billion USD is fake news, released by the Democratic Party" - US President Donald Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform.
President Trump's criticism came after a US official told reporters on June 15 that: "We have discussed the possibility of freezing frozen funds, reducing sanctions - a large $300 billion fund to rebuild their country and all of this will be linked to implementation efficiency.
US Vice President Vance seemed to have confirmed this possibility in an interview with CBS News on the morning of June 15. When asked about the potential $300 billion to rebuild Iran, the Vice President said, "that is money they can access, funded by the Gulf Alliance, when they fulfill their obligations".
Mr. Vance seems to be referring to the Gulf Cooperation Council, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The New York Times previously reported that the peace agreement between the US and Iran includes a clause on a $300 billion reconstruction investment fund for Iran. The information was obtained from an Iranian official and a diplomat.
However, senior US officials also told reporters on June 15 that the memorandum, signed electronically last weekend, was only the first step and "actual technical discussions" would begin this weekend, led by Vice President Vance.
Before the memorandum of understanding was signed at the weekend, the US Vice President affirmed that Tehran would not "receive any cash" as agreed with the US.
First, Iranians do not receive any money. No money is disbursed simply by signing an agreement or attending a meeting. The agreement is structured to ensure that the interests of the US and its allies are prioritized. If the Islamic Republic of Iran fulfills its obligations, economic benefits will flow to them and the entire region" - Mr. Vance shared on X.
