The homepage of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) had an article evaluating the 2-1 victory of the Vietnamese women's team over India on the evening of March 4, comparing the opening match to a "joyful start, Van Su as desired", emphasizing the mark of striker Ngan Thi Van Su with a double goal.
According to AFC, the Vietnamese women's team entered the game proactively, deploying a high-pressing style of play and creating continuous pressure on the Indian goal. Right in the first minutes, Van Su tried his luck with a long-range shot that went wide of the goal. In the opposite direction, India also had a response when Sangita Basfore forced goalkeeper Kim Thanh to work.
Coach Mai Duc Chung's team maintained a dominant game for most of the first half. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy had a long-range shot that hit the crossbar, before Huynh Nhu missed an opportunity in a one-on-one situation with goalkeeper Panthoi Chanu Elangbam. Bich Thuy then continued to challenge the opponent's defense with another dangerous situation.
Pressure was concretized in the 30th minute. From Thai Thi Thao's pass into the penalty area, the Indian defense handled it indecisively, creating conditions for Bich Thuy to assist Van Su to finish technically, opening the score 1-0.
In the second half, the Vietnamese women's team almost doubled the gap in the 48th minute, but Thai Thi Thao's goal was disallowed due to offside after consulting VAR. Just two minutes later, India counter-attacked and equalized 1-1 thanks to substitute player Sanfida.
However, according to AFC's assessment, bravery helped the Vietnamese women's team create a difference at the decisive moment. In the 90+4 minute, Van Su took advantage of the mistake of the Indian defense clearing the ball after Vu Thi Hoa's pass, completing a double and sealing a 2-1 victory.
With this result, the Vietnamese women's team is temporarily ranked second in Group C at the 2026 Women's Asian Cup when they have the same 3 points as Japan but are inferior in goal difference. In the next match on March 7, coach Mai Duc Chung's team will meet Taiwan (China) at 12:00, before facing Japan in the last match on March 10.
