In the early morning of May 20 (Vietnam time), Alcaraz confirmed that he was not in the best physical condition to return to play and decided to withdraw from the entire grass court season this year, including the Queen's Club Championship and Wimbledon.
On his personal page, the Spanish tennis player said that the injury is showing positive signs but is still not qualified to compete at the top level.
Alcaraz shared: "My recovery process is progressing well and I feel much better. However, I am still not ready to play, so I have to withdraw from grass court tournaments like Queen's and Wimbledon. These are all very special tournaments for me and I will miss them a lot.
Previously, Alcaraz had not played since the Barcelona Open on April 14, when he had problems with his right wrist. This injury caused the 23-year-old player to continuously miss many major clay court tournaments such as the Madrid Open, Italian Open and Roland Garros 2026.
The continued absence from Wimbledon also means that Alcaraz missed two consecutive Grand Slam tournaments for the first time since 2019.
Wimbledon is one of the most successful tournaments in Alcaraz's career as he has won the men's singles twice. In the previous season, the Spanish player reached the final but lost to Jannik Sinner.
In recent years, Alcaraz and Sinner have been considered the two dominant faces in world men's tennis when they together won a series of 9 consecutive Grand Slam titles. However, the Spanish player still prioritizes fully recovering instead of risking a early comeback.
This year's Wimbledon tournament is scheduled to take place from June 29 to July 12.
