In 2005, FPT Corporation bought the 2006 World Cup copyright but resold it to VTV and HTV because it could not find profitable business opportunities. The participation of businesses in the World Cup copyright story stopped there and at that time the copyright price had not yet skyrocketed.
Since then, no business has "ted" like FPT because the financial risk is 100%. As a result, only VTV as the national TV station became the only unit to have to shoulder and find every way to bring the copyright to the World Cup for the next 2 editions.
However, copyright prices are increasingly climbing and negotiations are also much more complicated. VTV cannot suffer huge losses alone if it is forced to buy the World Cup copyright.
Meanwhile, finding a companion is not easy, because if this was resolved by exchanging equivalent rights, everything would not be complicated. The problem is that the rights given must always be smaller than the amount of money and effort that the business must invest in order for VTV to be able to bring the copyright to serve fans. In other words, participating enterprises must identify "serving the people as the main thing". At the same time, the price of 15 million USD offered by Infront Sports & Media (ISM) further confused VTV.
In difficult times, VTV has found a partner that meets the criteria of "serving the people is the main thing" - That is the Military Industry - Telecommunications Group (Viettel). This unit is ready to become a financial support partner in copyright negotiations. However, the model that VTV and Viettel implemented was not the same as before with FPT but learned from abroad.
In Thailand, 9 enterprises have set up a group to negotiate the 2018 World Cup copyright. The fund is headed by King Power - the business of the Premier League owner of Leicester. The total amount that these 9 companies have to spend is about 43.7 million USD. Singapore also did the same with a price of 18.8 million USD by the joint efforts of three major media companies, Mediacorp, Singtel and StarHub.
And at the last minute, another enterprise (Vingroup) attended (June 7) and the 2018 World Cup copyright was officially "rescued" on June 8, 2018.
Here, both large enterprises participating in the "copyright rescue campaign for the 2018 World Cup" do not focus on rights issues. They also only appear at the last minute when everything is done. The cooperation model with the support of brands such as Viettel and Vingroup will be a model for other future cooperation deals in which the community service factor needs to be put first by commercial interests.
