Psychological performance

LÊ VINH |

Have you ever fallen into a state of feeling confident before the match but then playing very poorly and vice versa, feeling very worried or hesitant before the match but playing very well?

For athletes, most answers are yes. So what's the problem? Many reasons can be given, but one of the most important factors is to shift the focus between emotions and behavior, and change only needs to start from forming small habits.

This era, when everything seems to be too fast, worship for leaps, expecting success and great things to come in just one or two days. Setting goals is exciting but actions lead nowhere because they are too vague, lack planning, lack small habits to train concentration, cut off negative thoughts and focus on action.

People often think that playing sports - whether amateur or professional - only requires training and competition, but reality proves that psychology is important and therefore, professional sports have coaches with psychological performance. The experience drawn from people working at Major League or PGA Tour shows that creating small habits every day will bring great impact.

It could be 5 minutes of sitting still without a phone to calm down your brain, a habit of writing a diary of only a few lines to control progress; or shifting attention away from chaotic emotions to focus energy on 2 or 3 specific actions.

The power of these small habits lies in the fact that they are extremely easy to implement, completely eliminating the psychological barrier of "fearing to start". When repeated every day, the resonance effect will be very large. You don't get better after just one day of lifting hundreds of kilograms, belly ab workouts, jumping rope, push-ups... 5 minutes each day will help you do that.

Creating a small habit every day - whether just putting your phone in another room for a few minutes or recording something to improve - is the way to proactively regain control of the mind space. Don't underestimate small steps. Because long-term success is never the result of impulsive actions, but by the accumulation of disciplined habits, small but regular.
