The EURO 2024 final has passed a few days, but its echoes still linger. British fans continue to express disappointment with coach Gareth Southgate and some players. This time, it's not about their expertise but their behavior when receiving the Silver Medal.
Failure of course cannot be fun, but instead of accepting failure like men who have tried their best, they seem to see the Silver Medal as a symbol of failure. They feel heavy when they have to carry it around their neck. And so, from Southgate to students like Jude Bellingham, Kyle Walker, Cole Palmer... they all took off the medal immediately after putting it on.
It was English fans, not any other country, on social networks who described that action with words such as "disrespectful", "unsightly", even "disgusting" and said The players are "bad examples" and "ungrateful people" in the presence of many children across the country, who consider them idols.
“They do it as soon as they get it. They don't consider it an achievement. They only think about failure. They took it (the medal) off like ungrateful people. Only real losers do that. I hate the trend of removing medals from my neck immediately...".
Indeed, the British also witnessed similar actions three years ago, when England lost to Italy in the EURO 2020 final, or Liverpool players failed in the Champions League final...
They could have done that after getting off the stage. Acting like that only makes them "pathetic losers" - as assessed by their own countrymen.
Or from now on, get rid of the medals for second place!? Saying that, but for many other teams and athletes, they are happy even with the Bronze Medal , even just going deep into the tournament is already too happy. As people always joke: "If you have real strength, you will be sad when you lose. If you don't have real strength, why should you be sad?".
