After the match between Bulgaria and Germany on the morning of June 3 (Vietnam time), the FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League 2024 has concluded 4 matches of the second week of competition.
The first week of the Women's Nations League volleyball tournament took place from May 14 to May 19. Monday week from May 28 to June 3.
2024 is the sixth season of the Nations League, an annual international volleyball tournament for women.
16 teams participated in the tournament, with 11 of them qualified to become the core team that cannot be relegated. The remaining 5 teams were selected as challenge teams and could be relegated. The French women's volleyball team will replace Croatia after winning the Challenger Cup 2023.
16 teams ranked 1st to 16th on the FIVB world rankings after the most recent tournament will compete in a total of 12 matches in the preliminary round for 3 weeks, against strong opponents in equal terms - 3 matches with teams ranked 1st to 4th, 3 matches with teams ranked 5th to 8th, 3 matches with teams ranked 9th to 12th, and 3 matches with teams ranked 13th to 16th.
The top 8 teams will then enter the final round - playing in a knockout format. However, this regulation will only be applied if the host country of the final round falls into this group. Otherwise, the top 7 teams will have tickets.
This year, the final round will take place at Huamark Stadium, Bangkok, Thailand.
The Thai women's volleyball team went straight to the final round as the host. The team of coach Nataphon Srisamutnak is currently ranked 13th, with only 2 wins after 8 matches, so it is almost certain that it will not be able to enter the top half of the rankings.
Therefore, there will be only 7 teams winning tickets to Bangkok. After 2 weeks and 8 matches, the 2 teams Poland and Brazil won all, but the European representative was ranked higher because they lost only 2 sets, while the team from South America lost 7 sets.
Poland and Brazil will meet in the first match of week 3. Meanwhile, the three teams Italy, Japan and Türkiye have won 6 matches, while Canada and China have won 5 matches.
The teams that will compete for the Top 7 are the US, the Netherlands (winning 4 matches) and possibly Serbia (3 matches).
According to the schedule, week 3 of the Women's Nations League will return on June 11, ending on June 16. The final round takes place from June 20 to 23.
