Solve the overall problem
The project to host the 10th National Sports Festival in 2026, developed by Ho Chi Minh City, will await approval for promulgation. The last time Ho Chi Minh City hosted a National Sports Festival was in 2006.
Organizing the 10th National Sports Festival in 2026 is one of the opportunities for Ho Chi Minh City sports in particular and sports units in the Southern region in general to seek stronger investment.
Through research, Ho Chi Minh City will basically strive to organize and have the most perfect sports facilities to serve the 10th National Sports Festival in 2026. Along with that, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Tien Giang, Binh Phuoc units were selected to organize some sports in the competition program with Ho Chi Minh City.
The most important issue to be solved is that the National Sports Festival is a national-scale sports program, so the organization of the competition must be in accordance with the nature of sports and this is also the premise to help the sports sector look at the professional essence, find investment resources for better development.
How many subjects and content are appropriate?
According to the requirements of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the subjects included in the organization will be divided into four specific groups: Group of subjects in the Olympic competition program; Group of subjects of ASIAD; Group of subjects regularly included in the SEA Games program; Group of ethnic sports and modern sports with a development trend.
The Department of Sports and Physical Training is the unit that guides investment and development of high-performance sports in Vietnam. Therefore, this unit is the unit that directly reviews about 40 to 42 sports expected to be included in the program organized at the Sports Festival.
In addition to the prescribed subjects, professionals also expect key contents (in the ASIAD and Olympic programs) to be included in the National Sports Festival in Vietnam. Because we are aiming to focus on investing in improving the ability to compete for medals at the ASIAD and Olympic, we must have key points and not just put in too many contents and subjects so that the units can win medals when participating in the National Sports Festival.
At the 9th National Sports Festival 2022 held at the main venue of Quang Ninh, the Organizing Committee held 40 competitions with 941 events. Later, one sub-event was dropped, which was artistic gymnastics, due to insufficient registration, so the congress cut 8 events. Overall, the 9th National Sports Festival 2022 has 40 events with 938 sets of medals. However, some national events such as pole pushing, tug of war, lion and dragon dancing, etc. were included in the official competition program at that time.
Now, as required, the 10th National Sports Congress in 2026 will have a sport in the group of Traditional Sports, modern sports with a growing trend, so appropriate calculations and a sufficient number of content are necessary. Just like through the 19th ASIAD in Hangzhou (China) and the 2024 Olympics, Vietnamese sports have seen many recreational sports of interest, included in the official competition program of the above arena, so there is certainly attention from the management.
There are still two years left until the 10th National Sports Festival in 2026 takes place, but in order to best complete the professional preparation, the Organizing Committee must soon issue the Framework Charter of this tournament. Up to now, the Framework Charter is under construction and has not been finalized, so everyone still has to wait for the official document to be approved and then 65 units nationwide will know how the investment will be.
