On the morning of September 20, in the bronze medal match, the Vietnamese pair faced two athletes Dsouza Quimcy Joaquim and Beg Mohamed Anas Imran of India.
Minh Tan and Gia Nghi entered the game proactively, maintaining good coordination and control of ball situations, especially defensive phases. The two Vietnamese athletes won 12-9 in the first set, thereby creating a great advantage in the medal race.
In set 2, Minh Tan and Gia Nghi continued to play stably and led their opponents 9-5. However, the match was interrupted for many minutes when the Indian female athlete suffered an injury.
After the match returned, the Vietnamese pair still maintained their concentration, not letting the opponent create a comeback. Minh Tan and Gia Nghi easily won with a score of 12-6 to close the match with a score of 2-0.
This result helped Nguyen Hoang Minh Tan and Trinh Gia Nghi win bronze medals in men's and women's doubles in teqball. This is also the first medal of the Vietnamese sports delegation at ASIAD 20.
Previously, Minh Tan and Gia Nghi passed the group stage with a record of 4 wins and 1 defeat, ranking second in Group B to win the right to enter the quarterfinals. In the round for the 8 strongest pairs, two Vietnamese athletes defeated the Indian pair with a score of 2-0.
The bronze medal also marked a remarkable result for Vietnamese teqball at the first ASIAD when this sport was included in the competition program.
