Vietnam player transfer market waiting for a change in appearance

The revenue from the transfer market is the basis for Vietnamese clubs to develop and train young players as well as improve their internal strength when participating in the national professional tournament system.

Important linkage

The project to develop Vietnamese football by 2030, with a vision to 2045, focuses on many contents related to building and improving internal resources. Developing football in both breadth and depth, especially focusing on selecting, training and using talented players to inherit is the core factor of the project.

Of course, to closely follow the goals in the two stages spanning the next 20 years, financial resources need to be diversified, while ensuring continuity in each task implementation period. In addition to the State budget and sponsors, football teams themselves also need to create cash flow to ensure smooth operations, avoiding dependence on local resources. One of them is the budget from the player transfer market.

Over time, Vietnamese professional football teams have begun to focus on the amount of money that can be earned from selling players. Most recently, a club has earned around 20 billion VND from agreeing to let 3-4 players join another team. This amount is put into the operating budget for the entire season, in addition to investment items from sponsors, television rights...

In addition to this form, the teams also exchange players, plus negotiate finances to ensure Property at the negotiation table, thereby creating a more vibrant flow on "football markets" in Vietnam.

The transfer market is an important link in the development of Vietnamese football. This factor motivates teams to be more active in developing young players as well as earning a large sum of money from " transferring" talent to other clubs.

Waiting for more professionalism

Assessing the impact and great potential of the transfer market, the Vietnam Football Development Project towards 2030, with a vision to 2045, outlines targets for 2 specific phases. Accordingly, in the next 5 years, Vietnamese football needs to form and expand the football service business market and the football player transfer market.

From 2030 to 2045, the business market, football services, and player transfer markets need to develop at a high level, diversifying revenue sources for professional football activities to serve development. Aiming at the above two stages, the Project also sets out the task of developing a market for transferring players, professional coaches, etc.

Go deeper into the story of player procurement from football teams. The two knots to create momentum in the market lie in the contract term and the aspirations of the parties. Currently, the Vietnamese player has to go through a long contract period with a training club. Instead of being eligible to participate in transfers and sign professional contracts from the age of 18 like other players in the world, many famous stars such as Cong Phuong, Xuan Truong, Tuan Anh, Van Toan... have to wait until the age of 25-27 to end their dedication terms or youth training agreements.

Invisibly, players who miss opportunities can move to other clubs, even go abroad. The ambition and openness of the majority of Vietnamese players have therefore had a significant impact. Nguyen Hoang Duc had chosen to join Ninh Binh (at that time playing in the First Division) instead of going to Thailand and Japan to play football.

Clubs themselves are not open to transferring players aged 18-23. Normally, the dealings only take place in the form of a loan with a number of terms such as salary payment, leniency or purchase if the contract term between the parties is only 1-2 years.

Therefore, the Vietnamese transfer market is only really bustling when players are 25-27. Meanwhile, the U23 team has a high fighting spirit, which has received a lot of attention from domestic and foreign clubs, and has the potential to create transfer value that is not clearly present in the market.
