On the afternoon of September 4th, the organizers of the Vietnam Open 2026 international badminton tournament shared information about the tournament. This year's tournament will take place at Nguyen Du Gymnasium, Ho Chi Minh City from September 8th to 13th with 5 events, including: Men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.
The total value of the tournament is up to 120,000 USD, of which men's and women's singles champions each receive 9,000 USD. Meanwhile, doubles champions receive 9,480 USD/pair. This is a tournament belonging to the Super 100 system, but from 2027 it will belong to the World Tour system of the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
As the highest-quality international badminton tournament in Vietnam, this year's tournament has the participation of 307 athletes, from 27 countries and territories around the world.
Sharing at the press conference on the afternoon of September 4, representatives of the organizing committee emphasized that the quality of players participating in this year's tournament, especially in men's singles, has been clearly improved. In the seed group, Vietnam Open 2026 has the participation of Teh Jia Heng (Singapore, ranked 31st in the world), Jason Gunawan of Hong Kong (China, ranked 32nd), Prannoy (India, ranked 39th)...
In particular, player Lee Zii Jia (Malaysia) is not seeded but once won a men's singles bronze medal at the 2024 Olympics. Or Jason Gunawan recently defeated world No. 1 player Jonatan Christie at the China Masters 2026 tournament.
In the women's singles, Nguyen Thuy Linh - a Vietnamese player currently ranked 29th in the world - was chosen as the No. 2 seed. She has won the tournament 3 times in a row in 2022, 2023 and 2024 but only won the runner-up title in 2025.
Thuy Linh's main opponents at this year's tournament are Tanvi Sharma (India, world No. 24), Isharani Baruah (India, world No. 37), Amalie Schulz (Denmark, world No. 40)...
