Recently, the International Women's Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has updated the rankings after the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship ended. Notably, the Vietnam women's team is the team that dropped the lowest ranking when it dropped 6 places, from 22nd to 28th in the world.
This is the result of an unexpected performance by coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team in the group stage of the tournament that just took place in Thailand. The Vietnamese women's team has lost all 3 group stage matches, won only 1 set and had no points to maintain the rankings.
Although the squad still has familiar pillars such as Thanh Thuy, Nguyen Trinh, Lam Oanh or Vi Thi Nhu Quynh, the lack of stability in tactics and ineffectiveness in the attacks has made Vietnam unable to create surprises.
In contrast to Vietnam, the Thai women's team has made a strong progress in the world rankings. With an impressive victory over Sweden, Thailand brought home 11.24 points to increase from 21st place to 18th.
Slovenia was the team that created the biggest surprise at this year's tournament. By reaching the first qualifying round in their first participation, Slovenia has earned an additional 10.57 points and increased by 5 ranks, from 25th to 20th in the world.
In the leading group, the Italian women's team maintained their world No. 1 position after a convincing championship. Brazil is close to 2nd place, while Türkiye has made a leap from 6th place to 3rd place thanks to their achievement in the world final.
For the Vietnamese women's team, relegation is a necessary warning for the process of preparing for the upcoming important goals, before which is the 33rd SEA Games.
