In the last match of Group A taking place on the evening of May 7, Vietnam U17 women's team defeated Myanmar U17 women's team with a score of 2-1 to win a ticket to the quarter-finals with second place in the group.
Assessing the opponent after the match, coach Okiyama Masahiko said: "Compared to a year ago at the Southeast Asian Championship, Myanmar U17 women's team has improved a lot. They show that they are a tough opponent.
Although satisfied with the results achieved, the Japanese strategist believes that his students still have many points to improve.
Perhaps the previous two matches have caused the players to spend a lot of energy, so they cannot fully recover. However, the whole team has united and encouraged each other to aim for victory. The final result is very important," coach Okiyama Masahiko shared.
The coach of Vietnam U17 women's team also emphasized the team's limitations in the second half when allowing the opponent to narrow the score.
He said: "After scoring to increase the score, the team has not maintained focus and let U17 Myanmar women's team score. We need to prepare better for the quarter-finals, especially ensuring physical condition and form for the players.
According to the plan, Vietnam U17 women's team will have 3 days of rest before entering the quarter-finals. The opponent of coach Okiyama Masahiko's team will be the second-placed team in Group B of the tournament.
Participating in the knockout round is considered a positive result for Vietnamese youth women's football in the context that the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Championship gathers many strong teams from the region.
