On the afternoon of September 12, General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Nguyen Van Phu came to the training ground to encourage and assign tasks to U23 Vietnam before the team departed for Japan to participate in ASIAD 2026.
This is one of the important events of Vietnamese football in the remainder of 2026. VFF leaders expect coach Dinh Hong Vinh and his team to have good preparation, play confidently and achieve positive results in the continental arena.
At the meeting, Secretary General Nguyen Van Phu emphasized that ASIAD 2026 is in the group of four important events of the Vietnamese men's national teams in the last months of the year. After ASIAD, U23 Vietnam will continue to participate in a friendly tournament in Gia Lai, while the Vietnamese national team is aiming for the FIFA ASEAN Cup and U17 Vietnam is preparing for the FIFA U17 World Cup finals.
According to VFF leaders, U23 Vietnam and the women's team are the first teams to enter the competition in the series of events mentioned above. Secretary General Nguyen Van Phu sent wishes to the whole team for a smooth journey, playing their best and completing the set goals.
VFF also said that Chairman Tran Quoc Tuan was present in Nagoya (Japan) to take on the role of Head of the Steering Committee for men's football at ASIAD 2026. Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan will accompany U23 Vietnam during the team's participation in the tournament.
The presence of VFF leaders in Japan is expected to contribute to supporting the team in the competition process, while creating more peace of mind for the coaching staff and players.
In response to the encouragement from VFF leaders, coach Dinh Hong Vinh, on behalf of the coaching staff, thanked VFF for their concern in giving the best conditions for the team during the preparation process. This coach affirmed that U23 Vietnam will try their best, play for the national colors and aim for the most positive results at ASIAD 2026.
According to the plan, U23 Vietnam will depart for Japan on a flight departing at 0:15 on September 13. 9. The team gathered at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center from the morning of September 12 and had a single training session here in the afternoon of the same day.
At the present time, U23 Vietnam only has 15/23 players gathered. The remaining players are completing their tasks at the club and will join later after the end of the matches in the V.League.
At ASIAD 2026, U23 Vietnam is in Group C with Kuwait, Philippines and Uzbekistan. The team will play their opening match against Kuwait on September 15, then successively face the Philippines on September 18 and Uzbekistan on September 22.
With a dense schedule and quality opponents, the immediate task of U23 Vietnam is to compete for a ticket to continue, and at the same time show the capacity of Vietnamese youth football in the continental arena.
