At the end of the last trading session of the week, WTI oil price was at 96.60 USD/barrel, up 0.25 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.26%. Brent oil was at 103.54 USD/barrel, up 0.96 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.94%. In the last trading session of the week, oil prices increased slightly, as investors worried that the US and Iran would not be able to reach a peace agreement allowing sea transport operations to return to normal in the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite a slight recovery in the last trading session of the week, overall in the week, Brent oil still decreased by 5.24%, WTI oil decreased by 8.37%. In the week, oil prices plummeted after President Donald Trump announced that he had temporarily suspended plans to attack Iran to facilitate negotiations to end the war in the Middle East.
According to ING strategists in a report released on Friday, the market is still looking for signs of progress in the possibility of the US and Iran reaching an agreement. Despite some optimistic signs, uncertainty still prevails.
This is not the first time the market has thought that an agreement was very close before negotiations broke down. Therefore, there is still a large number of investors skeptical about the current positive signals," ING added.
