Fascinated by surprise
Similar to "blind bags", blind boxes - or "blind boxes" - are toys that are attracting many young people, are more expensive than "blind bags" and mostly come from big toy brands, making many people willing to spend millions of dong to "unbox" the right model of their favorite toy. This attraction not only makes "blind boxes" hot on social networks but is also sold everywhere on the sidewalks of Ho Chi Minh City.
According to Lao Dong, on some streets such as To Huu (Thu Duc City), Phan Van Tri (Go Vap District)... there are many "blind box" selling points and many customers come to buy, mainly young people.
Ms. Vo Ngoc Nga (Thu Duc City) said that she bought a total of 3 boxes of these toys for more than 1 million VND, but still could not find the Baby Three Unicorn model that she loved.
"Every time I unbox a new item, I feel excited and curious, so I decide to experience it and see it as a new joy," said Ms. Nga.
Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Anh Dao (Thu Duc City) shared that each set will have rare models, so most players want to own them.
"Each model will have a different look and expression like dora eyes, teary eyes, watery eyes, rotating eyes... I like collecting this toy because of that," Ms. Dao excitedly shared.
It is known that these toy boxes cost about 260,000 - 600,000 VND/box. Buyers do not know in advance what is inside these boxes. The manufacturer will randomly give them, it can be toys, accessories, or anything else.
In addition, there are also "blind boxes" from famous toy brands with prices up to millions, such as: Skullpanda, Labubu of Popmart, priced from about 300,000 VND/box to tens of millions of VND/box. Some places, because of the attraction of blind boxes, inflate the price by 2, 3 times, but are still sought after by many people.
Many people believe that young people are wasting their time on useless games and should instead find more useful activities.
Control the right "Dopamine" level
Some experts say that "blind bags" or "blind boxes" are attracting young people and bringing joy, but this trend also brings a lot of financial and psychological pressure.
According to psychologist Duong Thi Thu Ha - Deputy Director of the Institute of Life Psychology, tearing open a "blind bag" or hitting a "blind box" is an experience that stimulates the nervous system, releasing dopamine - a neurotransmitter that creates feelings of joy and satisfaction.
The analyst said that young people have a desire to possess. Owning a unique and unexpected item often brings a sense of pride and difference. This meets the young people's need for recognition and self-affirmation.
However, to enjoy this hobby in a healthy way and avoid financial risks, consumers need to consider and control the appropriate level, because after all, these products are mainly for display and entertainment purposes.
