On September 15, at Bien Hoa airport, Dong Nai province, 3 events took place including: Quarrying off of clean soil and dioxin; Starting construction of the dioxin treatment thermal technology system under the dioxin treatment project in Bien Hoa airport area and Signing an agreement to supplement ODA capital not to refund the project to support improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in priority provinces.

The event was attended by Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien - Deputy Minister of National Defense, Head of the Standing Agency of National Steering Committee 701; Mr. Marc Evans Knapper, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Vietnam; Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang - Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee...

At the event, representatives of the United States Embassy in Vietnam presented certificates of areas where greenhouse gas has been cleaned with an area of about 6 hectares at Bien Hoa airport after 6 years of implementation (from December 2019 to present); The Vietnam - US cooperation project to treat greenhouse gas at Bien Hoa airport has handled nearly half of the greenhouse gas contamination area in the airport areas and part of the airport's outside to reach the safety threshold and handed over to the Air Defense - Air Force and local authorities.

This is an activity continuing the successes of the Project that has been implemented in the previous 6 provinces: Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Gia Lai, Quang Ngai, Dong Nai since 2021. After 3 years of implementing the Project, 6 provinces have supported more than 32,000 people with disabilities and victims of Agent Orange/dioxin, reaching more than 60% of the set target.

Also at the event, delegates held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction and installation of a greenback processing technology system. The use of the thermal technology system is expected to speed up the progress of handling soil polluted with dioxin in the Bien Hoa airport area, aiming to complete the project before 2030.
Mr. Marc Evans Knapper, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Vietnam, said: Today's event is the clearest demonstration of the United States' commitment to overcoming the consequences of war in Vietnam... Bomb and mine clearing programs in the Central region will continue to be implemented in the coming time... The United States Department of State, together with the Government of Vietnam and non-governmental organizations, will continue to implement projects and programs to overcome the consequences of war in the coming time...

Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien - Deputy Minister of National Defense, Head of the Standing Agency of National Steering Committee 701 said that in the coming time, the Ministry of National Defense - Standing Agency of National Steering Committee 701 hopes that the US Embassy in Vietnam will continue to pay attention and recommend the US Government and Congress to ensure that ODA capital is not refunded;
Countries, international organizations, and partners share, cooperate, and support resources so that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense can complete the handling of the entire area of soil contaminated with dioxin in Vietnam, as well as expand support and care for victims affected by chemical toxins/dioxin.
