inspiring the spirit of learning
In March 2025, Mr. Nguyen Tan Thanh (88 years old, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) is still diligent in translating books and publications into many different languages.
Once a Literature teacher, Mr. Thanh knows and teaches 9 foreign languages including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Korean, Japanese... In which, each foreign language has its own certificate.
Although he owns an impressive literary and artistic fortune of 4 collections of poems, 5 collections of stories, 15 collections of poetry translated, more than 10 paintings attending the exhibition and has been at an ancient age, Mr. Thanh shared that "every age needs to learn", as the teaching of beloved Uncle Ho has deeply penetrated in his mind: "Studying is never the same. Study forever to improve forever".
Mr. Thanh is continuing his second year of studying for a Master's degree in Literature at Can Tho University, and is the oldest master's student at this school.
Previously, in 2024, the story of Mr. Nguyen Tan Thanh being awarded the " Adults never stop learning" scholarship made many people admire him. Not only the admiration and lifelong learning spirit of the U90 man, but also an example for many people in perseverance, love of studying, and conquering knowledge.
Studying is a lifelong career, a bright path to culture without stopping, no matter what age or class.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Thanh's story is one of many inspiring examples of lifelong learning spirit, contributing to building a learning society.
Recently, in the article "Lifetime learning", General Secretary To Lam affirmed that, implementing the Party's viewpoints and policies, building a learning and lifelong learning society has become a movement, a need, a cultural discipline and achieved many important results.
The article of the General Secretary clearly stated that new models and shining examples of learning spirit are never too late, there are many people at the age of "the old age" but still studying at university, doing doctoral theses only for the purpose of studying to set an example for their children and grandchildren to follow and advise their children and grandchildren to "study, continue studying, study forever"; "Study to work, work as a human being, work as a cadre. Learning to serve the unity, serve the class and people, serve the Fatherland and humanity, contributing to our countrys great achievements after nearly 40 years of renovation.
Getting rich in knowledge, asserting yourself, taking courageous action
Speaking with Lao Dong, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Doan - former Vice President, President of the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Education - said that the article "Lifetime Learning" by General Secretary To Lam contains what our country needs for development, needs for each citizen, each family, especially for cadres, civil servants, public employees and party members.

Talking about lifelong learning for each individual, according to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Doan, if they do not study, they cannot keep up with the development of society. As in the article by General Secretary To Lam, "lifelong learning becomes a rule of life", "this is an important key to improve people's knowledge and train human resources, promote socio-economic development".
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Doan, for every person, in current conditions, studying first is to accumulate knowledge. Increase your knowledge to enrich your knowledge, approach new issues so as not to be outdated, meet development needs, affirm your position towards friends, towards family, towards work and towards the country.
lifelong learning will affirm the model of learning in the family, family line, and society. When studying for life, having enough knowledge will help people go further, thereby continuing to innovate, being able to be brave, confident in walking, having knowledge to affirm their position with family, friends and the international community.
The process of accumulating knowledge throughout that person is lifelong learning. And with the spirit of building a learning society, lifelong learning, that is the condition for each individual, family and country to develop more strongly" - Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Doan stated.
