Prime Minister attends the opening ceremony of the National Startup Festival for students

HCMC - The 7th National Startup Festival for students opened on the morning of April 20. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Also attending were Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son; Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc and leaders of central and local ministries, branches.

The Seventh National Entrepreneurship Festival of students and students was chaired by the Ministry of Education and Training (Education and Training), Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Finance and Vietnam Trade and Industry Federation (VCCI).

In 2017, the Prime Minister approved the project "Supporting students to start businesses until 2025" (Project 1665).

The Ministry of Education and Training assessed that after 7 years of implementation with many practical and effective solutions, Project 1665 has created strong changes in the awareness and actions of the entire education sector.

From 2020-2024, the number of student start-up projects is 33,808 projects, with an average of 5,635 projects per year. The number of start-up projects for middle and high school students is 8,700 projects, with an average of 1,465 projects per year.

The number of startups and startups created by higher education institutions from 2020 to present is approximately 300 enterprises. The number of startups calling for capital from investors is 12 enterprises, the largest capital is 1 billion VND/project.

100% of universities and vocational training institutions plan to deploy support for start-ups; 90% of high school students, university and college students are propagandized, educated, and equipped with knowledge and skills on start-ups before graduation. The rate of students starting a business after 5 years of graduation continues to remain at 8%.

The number of higher education institutions that have converted startups into compulsory or optional subjects, with a minimum of 2 credits/subject reaching 58%, of which some pedagogical colleges have converted startups into optional subjects for students; 75% of training institutions have organized short-term training activities for students through start-up skills classes; 100% of higher education institutions have built programs to inspire students to start up through forums and early-term citizen activities.

By 2024, 60% of schools have established startup clubs in priority areas based on the strengths of training institutions; 110 training institutions have arranged common spaces for startup support for students, an increase of 20 training institutions compared to 2023; about 50 training institutions have established centers to support students to start businesses, an increase of 5 training institutions compared to 2023. 10 training institutions have established Start-up Support Funds for students, most of which are to support incubation and experimental production activities.

In 7 years of implementing Project 1665, more than 2,100 lecturers and nearly 10,000 students have been honored and rewarded by schools for their achievements in startup activities.

The Ministry of Education and Training said that this year's HSSV competition with startup ideas has 775 HSSV startup projects participating. Startup ideas are quality and diverse, the content of the ideas focuses on solving problems of the social community.

This year, the 7th National Start-up Festival for students and the contest for students with startup ideas took place from April 18 to 20, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education.
