At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam on the afternoon of October 17, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang answered questions from the press regarding the recent decision by the Thai court to extradite terrorist Y Quynh Bdap to Vietnam.
Ms. Pham Thu Hang emphasized that Y Quynh Bdap was the subject who directly recruited, incited and directed the terrorist attack on June 11, 2023 in Dak Lak province, causing particularly serious consequences.
"This subject was tried and sentenced to 10 years in prison by the People's Court of Dak Lak province for terrorism. The extradition of subject Y Quynh Bdap to Vietnam is appropriate and aims to ensure that all criminals are prosecuted before the law. Vietnamese authorities will continue to coordinate with Thai authorities to handle the case in accordance with the laws of the two countries," said Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang.
According to the Dak Lak Provincial Police website, Y Quynh Bdap is the leader of the organization "Montagnards stand up for justice".
The organization "Montagnards Stand Up for Justice" is a reactionary organization founded by Y Quynh Bdap, gathering ethnic minorities in Thailand with anti-government ideology.
Y Quynh Bdap, born in 1992, in Buon Cue, Bang Adrenh commune, Krong Ana district, Dak Lak province.
The post on the Dak Lak Provincial Police website stated that while still in school, Y Quynh Bdap had an active anti-government ideology, regularly contacted FULRO in exile, attracted people to participate, and propagated anti-government propaganda.
Although authorities discovered and granted leniency, Y Quynh Bdap continued to contact and receive instructions from outside, attracting domestic subjects to engage in subversive activities, and then crossed the border to Thailand with his wife and children.
Regarding the terrorist attack on June 11, 2023 in Cu Kuin district, Y Quynh Bdap contacted and directed domestic subjects to participate in extremely barbaric and inhumane acts, causing public outrage. On August 14, 2023, Y Quynh Bdap and related subjects were specially wanted by the authorities.
