Gold price forecast
World gold prices are recording a slight recovery, mainly supported by the retreat of crude oil prices and the cooling down of US Treasury bond yields. However, the upward momentum of this precious metal is still being somewhat curbed because the USD continues to hold in the highest price range in recent times.
Currently, the trading range of spot gold is fluctuating in the range of 4,021.2 USD to 4,083.1 USD/ounce, marking a recovery from the bottom but still unable to break out of the strong resistance zone (4,080 - 4,140 USD/ounce).
The direction of gold prices in the coming time is strongly influenced by the macroeconomic picture of the US. The latest data shows that business activities in this country have accelerated to the highest level in the past 8 months, accompanied by impressive growth in home sales. In particular, the number of initial jobless claims remained at a record low (187,000 claims), proving the stability of the labor market.
These positive economic data have overshadowed expectations of monetary policy easing that had previously emerged. Although the market largely still bets on the scenario that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) will keep interest rates unchanged in next week's meeting, the risk of a sudden interest rate hike has not completely disappeared.
Besides policy factors, geopolitical hotspots in the Straits of Hormuz and the Red Sea continue to be unpredictable factors dominating investor sentiment. Although the latest peace negotiation efforts have helped crude oil prices cool down, pressure on shipping routes still puts the market in a tense state.
This risk has a double impact on gold: both promoting safe-haven cash flow to find precious metals, but also raising concerns about inflation if energy prices rise sharply again, thereby indirectly pushing bond yields up and putting pressure on gold.
Moving to next week, the focus of attention of the entire market will be on the Fed's interest rate decision, the Q2 GDP report and the Personal Consumption Expenditure (PCE) index - the Fed's preferred inflation measure.
In terms of technical analysis, if gold successfully breaks through the threshold of 4,083.1 USD/ounce, short-term prospects will become very positive. Conversely, if it loses the 4,021.2 USD/ounce mark, the precious metal may face the risk of retreating to deeper support zones.
