A series of flights continue to be canceled due to storm No. 3 Wipha

Storm No. 3 Wipha is forecast to make landfall in Vietnam on the morning of July 22, airports in the affected areas will be temporarily suspended until 12:00.

According to the latest storm news from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 7:00 a.m. on July 22, the center of storm No. 3 Wipha was at about 20.2°N; 106.7°E (about the coast of Hai Phong - Ninh Binh). The strongest wind is level 9 (75-88km/h), gusting to level 12.

It is forecasted that at around 10am this morning, storm No. 3 will make landfall, the area most affected at this time is the area from Hai Phong to Thanh Hoa.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam decided to temporarily suspend the receipt and operation of aircraft at airports in the affected area on July 21 and 22.

Van Don International Airport (Quang Ninh) and Cat Bi International Airport (Hai Phong) will temporarily close from 11pm on July 21 to 12am on July 22.

The Civil Aviation Authority also requested Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi) and Tho Xuan Airport (Thanh Hoa) to closely monitor the weather report and adjust the exploitation plan if necessary.

On July 21 and 22, a total of 48 domestic and international flights were delayed, diverted or canceled due to the impact of the storm. The number of affected passengers is up to more than 7,600 people.

At Noi Bai airport, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on July 22, there were 4 domestic flights that had to be delayed/shipped, 624 passengers were affected.

Van Don Airport from 7:00 p.m. on July 21 to 10:00 a.m. on July 22 had 2 domestic flights to be canceled, 300 passengers were affected.

Vietnam Airlines announced that flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Van Don will be adjusted to land after 2:00 p.m. on July 22.

Flights between Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang will have their landing schedules adjusted after 2:00 p.m. at Cat Bi airport.

Flights VN1276, VN1277, VN7264, VN7265 between Ho Chi Minh City and Tho Xuan will be operated early, take off in Tho Xuan before 11am.

Flights VN1278, VN1279, VN7268, VN7269, VN7276, VN7277 during the day will be canceled.

Some flights to and from Hai Phong and Thanh Hoa had to adjust their flight plans on July 22.

Vietjet canceled 9 flights to and from Hai Phong on routes connecting Da Nang, Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh City.

12 flights on routes between Thanh Hoa to Ho Chi Minh City; Da Lat have been temporarily suspended.

In addition, many other domestic and international flights on July 22 may also be affected by Typhoon Wipha.

Passengers scheduled to depart today, July 22, should proactively update information from airlines and at the airport.

Passengers are advised to always wear seat belts throughout the flight, even when the signal is turned off, to ensure safety in complex weather conditions.

Wipha has previously caused serious disruptions in Hong Kong and neighboring airports in southern China. At least 600 flights have been canceled, affecting about 100,000 passengers.
