Sharing before the premiere in Quang Ninh, the director, cinematographer and actor of the movie "Địa đạo - Mặt trời trong bóng tối" said that the idea for making the work was formed in 2014. At that time, director Bui Thac Chuyen participated in a 3D film project about Cu Chi tunnels, having the opportunity to directly interact with people who had lived and fought in tunnels.
After nearly 10 years of incubation, the script was completed and the film was deployed for production more than 2 years later.
The film will be released on April 4, 2025. After the first screening, the crew received feedback from audiences and professionals, adjusted the rhythm, and added some scenes.
The version shown in Quang Ninh is a more complete version.
To ensure authenticity, the film crew set high requirements in the stage of casting actors, especially the figure suitable for the tunnel space.
However, the cramped setting made the filming process difficult, and the actors also repeatedly "bumped their heads" when moving in the setting.
Before filming, the actors were taken to a military barracks for a month to practice demeanor, discipline, learn to use weapons and improve physical strength.
This process helps actors have real-life experiences, creating a realistic feeling when playing guerrilla soldiers.
