In early September 2026, La Chi Tuong's appearance in Hangzhou, near the location where "Extreme Challenge" was filmed, sparked speculation that the male singer might return to the program.
Previously, an account introduced as director Nghiem Man - who performed the first seasons - recalled the old squad and raised the issue of reunion possibilities. On social networks, La Chi Tuong, Truong Nghe Hung and Vuong Tan also had actions related to the program.
However, the possibility of La Chi Tuong reappearing quickly caused controversy. The fact that audiences are nostalgic for an old program does not mean that the public can ignore the controversies related to artists.
La Chi Tuong once fell into an image crisis in 2020 after private life allegations from his ex-girlfriend Chau Duong Thanh. After that, his activities in the mainland Chinese market decreased significantly.
Not every case is the same
In recent years, some artists who were once famous in China have had difficulty wanting to return, but the reasons and conditions of each person are not completely the same.
Trieu Vy is a case with a clearly announced administrative penalty decision.
In 2018, the China Securities Regulatory Commission determined violations related to information disclosure in the Longwei Media deal. Zhao Wei was warned, fined 300,000 yuan and banned from participating in the stock market for 5 years.
By 2021, the actress's name disappeared from many platforms and some works in which she participated were removed. However, using the 2018 securities penalty decision to explain Zhao Wei's entire artistic performance status after 2021 is incomplete, because these are two different issues.
Dien Phuc Chan is another case. In 2024, she was announced to perform at the Bubble Island Music & Art Festival in Tianjin. After the information appeared, debates related to the female singer's posts from 2022 continued to be mentioned.
On April 27, 2024, the organizers announced that Dien Phuc Chan would not participate in the program due to "preparation for the event" and opened a ticket refund gate. The female singer's management company later said that the organizers made the decision due to safety considerations.

Therefore, the three cases cannot be combined into a group with the same cause or the same form of handling.
Why returning is increasingly difficult
The common point lies in the fact that the artist management environment in China has been tightened.
In 2022, the State Radio and Television Administration of China and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism issued rules for livestreamers, which require not to create opportunities for artists to violate laws and ethical standards causing adverse effects to appear publicly or switch to another platform to return.
In the same year, the China Cyberspace Administration requested to handle the situation of artists with bad images changing accounts, switching platforms or using livestreams, short videos to find ways to reappear.
Advertising regulations also require businesses and media to increase responsibility when selecting celebrities, aiming to limit the use of artists who violate the law or ethical standards.
This makes the return no longer depend solely on the artist's wishes.
An artist may still have a large fan base, but television programs, online platforms, brands and event organizers must consider risks when collaborating.
The new debate around La Chi Tuong shows that even nostalgia for a once famous program is not enough to erase old controversies.
In the current Chinese entertainment market, fame can help artists be remembered, but to return to widespread activities depends on management regulations, decisions of platforms, organizers and public acceptance.
