Musician Nguyen Van Chung said that he exempts copyright for cases of using songs not for business purposes, especially in education, community activities and preserving memories.
Accordingly, schools, teachers, students, and pupils can use, perform, record, or incorporate songs into study activities, movements, exams, and personal souvenirs without paying copyright fees.
Talking to a reporter of Lao Dong newspaper, a representative of musician Nguyen Van Chung said that he decided to exempt copyright for 7 cases mainly for education, community activities, keeping memories and non-commercial activities.
Recently, the musician "Continuing the story of peace" received many emails and messages asking for permission to use the work. However, due to being busy practicing and filming for the program "Older Brothers Overcoming Thousands of Hardships", he could not answer all of them.
Sometimes it's just asking to sing at art schools or neighborhoods, but people still ask and wait for permission. There are also cases where many people mistakenly think that just asking for permission from musicians can comfortably use songs, for example to participate in major competitions.
However, the process of posting, broadcasting or releasing afterwards may arise many procedural problems, even in some cases beyond the ability of musician Nguyen Van Chung to intervene, such as TikTok's regulations on turning off the sound when posting music for more than 60 seconds," the musician's side added.
The information that musician Nguyen Van Chung exempted copyright for 7 cases received public attention in the context of increasingly tightened copyright and copyright issues.
The male musician also hopes that lawyers and specialized units on intellectual property can advise and share accurate information so that the implementation of policies related to copyright can be understood and applied in accordance with regulations.
Previously, musician Nguyen Van Chung also attracted attention when sharing that intellectual property infringement and revenue loss from compositions are no longer unfamiliar to him, starting from around 2008, when the ringtones market developed.
The male musician was once surprised to discover that one of his hit songs brought in about 1.7 billion VND in revenue from network operators, but this amount did not reach him.
