On July 29, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" officially premiered in China, two days earlier than the North American market and some international markets.
According to Maoyan Pro data updated at 7:00 AM on July 29, the film grossed about 95.15 million CNY (about 350 billion VND) after 7 hours of screening. If including early screenings and pre-booked tickets, total revenue on the first day exceeded 120 million CNY (about 441 billion VND).
Before the official release, revenue from early screenings and pre-ordered tickets for the film exceeded 100 million CNY. Securities Times quoted Maoyan Pro as saying that this milestone was set at noon on July 28.
On the first morning, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" accounted for more than 40% of the total screenings in China. The contribution rate to box office revenue during the day reached 88.2%.
This result helped the film surpass "Eight Immortals" to top the daily revenue chart. Previously, the Chinese animated work held the number one box office position for 5 consecutive days.
Eight Immortals" grossed about 5.89 million CNY in the morning of July 29, with a screening rate reduced to 22.9%. After 12 days of release, the film's total revenue reached about 876 million CNY (3.220 billion VND).
According to Chinese media, the work was released on July 18 and surpassed the 100 million CNY mark on its release date.
The appearance of the movie Spider-Man also affected Stephen Chow's "Kung Fu Women's Football Team". The work grossed about 2.39 million CNY in the morning of July 29, while the screening rate decreased to 20.6%.
After 19 days of screening, "The Kung Fu Girl" achieved a total revenue of about 2.022 billion RMB (more than 7,430 billion VND). The film is still in the top of the summer box office in China, but the revenue growth rate has slowed down due to the competition of new works.
Previously, Maoyan had repeatedly adjusted the total revenue forecast of Stephen Chow's film. However, the forecast figures may continue to change depending on ticket sales in the following weeks.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day" continues the events of "Spider-Man: No Way Home". Actor Tom Holland returns to the main role, alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon and Sadie Sink.
The opening revenue shows that the Spider-Man brand still has a significant audience in China, in the context that some Marvel superhero movies recently did not achieve high results in this market.
However, the film's ability to maintain revenue also depends on audience feedback, number of screenings and competition from new films released in August.
