Vietnamese music group brings a new breeze
For a long time, the Vietnamese music market has been lacking many music groups. Most of them are solo artists. While in markets such as Korea and Japan, the group model is very popular, they are even considered the "golden egg-laying chicken" of managers and artist training companies.
In the first half of 2025, Vietnamese music attracted attention when there were a return of music groups. Most recently, it was the debut of B.O.F - a boy band that gathered "talents" from the program "Call Me by Fire" including Jun Pham, S.T Son Thach, BB Tran, Kay Tran and Bui Cong Nam. Each individual in the group had their own fan base before its formation.
In the girl group, singer Phuong Vy and Luu Huong Giang, after participating in "Sister Who Makes Wave" season 1, also decided to form the VibeQueens music group, experimenting with many music genres in addition to R&B and ballad.
Some music groups that have become famous again include Buk Tuong, The Men. In which, The Men group consisting of 2 members Le Hoang - Tien Dung reunited and introduced a new product called "Co thuong ai them don don don" , marking the group's 16th year of activities.
In general, the return of old groups and the launch of new groups have created many positive changes in the Vietnamese music market, helping audiences have more options to enjoy music.
Moreover, the Vietnamese music market has long lacked the mark of music groups, so they are considered a new breeze that is more welcomed by the audience. However, up to now, leaving an impression on the audience is not too obvious.
Difficulty making an impression
Remember the group B.O.F of the "Call Me by Fire" to date, the group has released 3 products Tet dinh rup, Liv Tinh and No Fair. No Fair is considered the group's official debut song, with a thorough investment in image.
Despite large investments and talented people owning a huge fan base, they are still considered to have not made an impression on the audience. In particular, the song No Fair was judged by the audience to not be too special, not attractive enough for the audience to listen to it again. The group has many advantages but still needs a hit song to conquer the majority of the audience.
That shows that operating a new music group is not easy. Creating a new hit to help the band leave a mark in the hearts of the audience is a big challenge for the group as well as the management company.
Moreover, in the current Vietnamese music market, newly formed music groups seem to be trendy, taking advantage of the appeal of the programs they participate in such as: "Call Me by Fire" or "Sister Who Makes Wave" but not really aiming, long-term or more professional.
This is shown through the fact that the group of brothers coming out of "Anh trai say hi" is the same. The MOPIUS group from the brothers Duong Domic, JSOL, HURRYKNG and Quang Hung MasterD released the MV "Lan Phuong Nhat" with a catchy, easy-to-listen melody to conquer the audience. However, up to now, the members are still solo, with little sign of returning with the group.
Meanwhile, when returning to the audience, The Men group said that if they want to conquer the audience, they need to renew themselves, be younger. This requires the group to listen to the market, search for suitable songs and have a smart communication direction to retain the audience.
Therefore, it can be seen that the Vietnamese music group still faces many challenges, in which long-term orientation as well as the approach to the audience are what artists and management companies need to find solutions to.
