The case attracted public attention for a long time due to its involvement in the heritage of the late famous Cai Luong artist Vu Linh and the dispute between Ms. Vo Thi Hong Nhung (younger sister of the late artist Vu Linh) and Ms. Vo Thi Hong Loan (adopted daughter of the late artist Vu Linh).
The previous appellate trial was opened on the morning of April 22 at the High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City. However, after completing the initial procedures, the Trial Panel decided to postpone the trial.
The cause was determined to be the absence of a representative of the Cau Kieu Ward People's Committee (former Phu Nhuan district). According to the assessment of the representative of the Procuracy at the trial, this is an important procedural participant, related to clarifying some files and documents in the case. Therefore, continuing the trial when this unit is absent may affect the process of comprehensively considering the details of the case.
After considering the opinions of the parties, the Trial Panel decided to postpone the trial to ensure that the case is resolved objectively, fully and in accordance with legal regulations.
Previously, the dispute arose after the late NSƯT Vu Linh passed away in March 2023. Ms. Hong Nhung filed a lawsuit, requesting the cancellation of documents related to the adoption and declaration of heritage of Ms. Hong Loan - the adopted daughter of the late artist Vu Linh, and at the same time requesting to re-determine the line of succession for the assets of the late artist.
At the first-instance trial held at the beginning of 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court determined that Ms. Hong Loan was the legal adopted daughter of late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh and belonged to the first line of inheritance according to the provisions of law.
According to the first-instance judgment, Ms. Hong Loan is entitled to 85% of the inheritance value. The court also partially accepted the request of Ms. Hong Nhung's side, determining that she had contributed to taking care of her family and the late artist for a long time, so she is entitled to 15% of the value of the disputed assets.
After this verdict, both parties exercised the right to appeal. Ms. Hong Loan requested the appellate court to reconsider the division of 15% of the inheritance to Ms. Hong Nhung. Meanwhile, Ms. Hong Nhung continued to request the cancellation of documents related to Ms. Hong Loan's adoption and re-determination of inheritance.
