British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the nomination of his replacement will begin on July 9. However, his opponent, Andy Burnham, is the brightest candidate.
If successful, Mr. Burnham will become the 7th British Prime Minister since the Brexit vote leaving the European Union, which took place exactly 10 years ago this week.
The question my party is asking now is whether I am the most suitable person to lead us into the next general election. I have heard my party's answer in Congress to that question, and I accept that answer respectfully," he said in a national address at 10 Downing Street.
Mr. Starmer said that he will also resign as leader of the Labour Party, less than 2 years after he led the party to a landslide victory in the election.
In his speech on June 22, Mr. Starmer thanked his colleagues for their support. He also expressed his gratitude to his wife and children.
