Khanh Hoa - The communication forum on preventing and combating human trafficking with the theme "Stuck behind the trap of fraud" attracted 300 women to participate.

On the afternoon of July 28, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union in coordination with the Khanh Hoa Provincial Women's Union organized a communication forum on preventing and combating human trafficking.

This is one of the activities in response to World Anti-Trafficking Day and National Anti-Trafficking Day (July 30).

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong - Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union - said that human trafficking is a particularly dangerous type of crime, seriously infringing human rights and is tending to be associated with high-tech crime.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), online fraud activities in East Asia and Southeast Asia caused damage of 18 to 37 billion USD in 2023.

Most of the cases are related to transnational criminal lines, forced labor and human trafficking.

In Vietnam, subjects are increasingly taking advantage of social networks to post fake recruitment news, promising "light work, high salary", luring victims to Cambodia, Myanmar, the Golden Triangle region (Laos) and some other countries to compel labor or participate in online scams.

In addition, they also take advantage of marriage brokerage, adoption, travel, visiting relatives, and even organ and tissue transplantation activities to commit crimes.

In the first 6 months of the year, functional forces investigated 120 human trafficking cases, prosecuted 323 defendants, and identified 146 victims. Nearly 71% of victims were women; about 76% were forced labor and nearly 20% were sexually exploited.

In Khanh Hoa, although the situation has not become as complicated as in many border localities, worrying risks have emerged.

From July 1, 2025 to now, the Provincial Police have investigated and clarified 1 human trafficking case, prosecuted 14 defendants and rescued 20 victims. At the same time, functional agencies are verifying many denunciations of cases of being tricked into working abroad and then being forced to work, beaten or demanded ransom.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, just one call, a strange link or an invitation "light job, high salary" can also make many people fall into the trap of criminals.

Notably, the victims are not only ignorant people but also students, workers, officials, and civil servants - people who regularly use social networks.

Human trafficking not only destroys the victim's life, causes pain to the family, but also threatens security and social order. Therefore, early and remote prevention through communication, raising awareness and self-protection skills is the most effective "shield" - Ms. Huong emphasized.

Representatives of the Vietnam Women's Union said that the Women's Union at all levels will continue to innovate communication activities, apply digital technology, support safe migrant women, help victims reintegrate into the community and strive for 100% of women and children who are victims of human trafficking to return to have access to at least one appropriate support service.
