On April 22, the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Earth Sciences is still continuing to monitor continuous earthquakes occurring in the mountainous area bordering Quang Ngai and Da Nang provinces.
From about 7 pm on April 21 to 1 pm on April 22, there were 7 earthquakes, large and small. This is the first time earthquakes have appeared with a fairly dense frequency; before that, earthquakes mainly occurred 2-3 months apart.
There were 2 earthquakes in the Mang But commune area, Quang Ngai province. Disaster risk level: 0.
The remaining 5 earthquakes occurred in the Tra Linh commune area, Da Nang city. Disaster risk level: 0.
The Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center – Institute of Earth Sciences is still continuing to monitor these earthquakes.
It is known that the mountainous areas of Tra Linh and Mang But communes are located near the Thuong Kon Tum hydropower reservoir - one of the largest hydropower plants in the Central Highlands and South Central Coast regions.
Previously, experts assessed that earthquakes were likely to occur due to the stimulus from hydropower's water storage.
The area where people live near the lake is always potentially at risk of natural disasters and high risk of landslides; therefore, local authorities regularly mobilize and propagate to proactively respond to earthquakes.
