On the morning of May 4, leaders of Anh Son Commune People's Committee (Nghe An) confirmed that the locality had received a report from people about the appearance of fish deaths on the Lam River, for unknown reasons.
According to records, not only fish raised in people's cages and rafts died, but natural fish outside also died, drifting ashore. This is the first time in many years that the locality has recorded fish deaths on the Lam River.

At the same time, many cage fish farming households on the Lam River, passing through Anh Son town (old), are focusing on picking up dead fish.
Mr. Tran Van Huy (38 years old, residing in Anh Son commune, Nghe An) said that on the same morning, when checking the cages, he discovered white fish floating in the cages. His family has been raising caged fish for more than 10 years, but this is the first time this phenomenon has occurred.
According to initial statistics, by the morning of May 4, Anh Son commune had about 15 households raising fish in cages on the Lam River, most of which recorded fish deaths.
Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, at about 5 pm on May 3, heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning occurred in Nhan Hoa commune (Nghe An). A lightning bolt directly hit the sugarcane seed tank of the sugar factory under Song Lam Sugar Joint Stock Company, causing the tank to be punctured.
The incident caused about 2,000 tons of sugarcane seed in the tank to spill into the factory premises. Currently, Song Lam Sugar Joint Stock Company is fixing the incident.
