On the afternoon of September 16, Mr. Huynh Minh Nhan - Director of the Bac Lieu Province Hydrometeorological Station - said that from September 19 to 23, a new high tide will appear in the East Sea (tide on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month). Tomorrow, the Mid-Autumn Festival, there is a possibility of rain, which is likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas and some urban roads in the province.
The highest tide peak at Ganh Hao Hydrological Station is forecasted to be at alert level 3 (2.20m), occurring around September 21 to 22, with tidal amplitude fluctuating between 3 - 4m.
“During this period, Bac Lieu province is likely to experience widespread and prolonged heavy rain. Be careful that heavy rain coincides with the peak tide, increasing the risk of flooding in some low-lying areas; landslides in areas outside the dike, along rivers and the coast…”, Mr. Nhan added.
The Bac Lieu Province Hydrometeorological Station also requested the Provincial Civil Defense Command and relevant departments, branches and localities to deploy measures to respond to high tides, in order to limit possible negative impacts.
In addition, the Bac Lieu Province Hydrometeorological Station also forecasted that from noon on September 17 to the morning of September 18, Bac Lieu province will have moderate to heavy rain, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall from 40 - 120mm. Therefore, it is necessary to be on guard against dangerous weather phenomena that often occur during thunderstorms such as tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind.
