According to the actual record of Lao Dong Newspaper reporter on September 19, at the workshop of Ben Tre Waste Treatment Plant (Huu Dinh commune, Chau Thanh district, Ben Tre province), the amount of garbage temporarily stored here has not been moved yet. This is the amount of garbage generated during the closure of Ba Tri landfill.
Regarding the relocation of waste at the Ben Tre Waste Treatment Plant, speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper reporter over the phone on the afternoon of September 19, Mr. Vo Van Ngoan - Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Ben Tre province - said that it is expected that by the end of 2024, the waste at the Ben Tre Waste Treatment Plant factory will be relocated to Phu Hung landfill (Ben Tre city).
"The construction unit is currently renovating the landfill area at Phu Hung landfill, expected to be completed in nearly 3 months. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment is making an estimate to carry out bidding procedures for the package to transport the amount of waste from the Ben Tre Waste Treatment Plant to Phu Hung landfill" - Mr. Ngoan said.
According to the authorities of Ben Tre province, Phu Hung landfill with an area of 7.33 hectares was closed by the People's Committee of Ben Tre province in 2018. According to the land use planning of Ben Tre city for the period 2021 - 2030 and the land use plan, the area at this landfill is still kept as landfill land and dumping ground.
To receive the amount of waste at the Ben Tre Waste Treatment Plant, the authorities will renovate 3 biological ponds (area of 0.23ha) into landfill cells at Phu Hung landfill to contain the above amount of waste.
In addition, to ensure the environment, before unloading, waste at the above factory will be sprayed with biological products and chemicals to treat odors before transportation. When transferred to the new landfill at Phu Hung landfill, it will continue to be sprayed, packaged and covered with tarpaulin on the same day to minimize odors affecting the surrounding environment.
After completing the transportation of waste, the entire landfill will be covered with a tarpaulin to close the door, preventing rainwater from coming into contact with the waste, causing leachate and the risk of leakage to the outside, and preventing odors from affecting the surrounding area.
