On December 28, a representative of the Traffic Police Team on National Highway 19 (Binh Dinh Provincial Police Department) said that in recent days, landslides have occurred on An Khe Pass through Tay Son District, causing rocks and soil to roll down National Highway 19, affecting traffic.
"Heavy rain caused rocks and soil on the slope to slide down onto the road early this morning. The landslide is located in the area where the District 19 upgrade project is under construction.
This morning, traffic police were present at the landslide area, directing traffic so that the construction unit could clear the dirt and rocks from the road. The problem has now been resolved and traffic is now moving normally," he said.
According to initial information, at around 4am this morning, a large amount of rock and soil suddenly slid down National Highway 19 through An Khe Pass (in Tay Son district), affecting traffic.
The construction unit has put up warning signs, used motor vehicles and excavators to fix landslides, and cleared dirt and rocks from the road surface.
Traveling through An Khe Pass this morning, Mr. Tran T - a tourist car driver in Quy Nhon City (Binh Dinh) said that at around 8am this morning, while taking passengers through An Khe Pass, he saw rocks and soil sliding down the road. The An Khe Pass area is under construction but landslides have occurred continuously in recent times, making traffic difficult and dangerous.
On the same day, the leader of Tay Son District People's Committee confirmed that in the past few days, landslides have frequently occurred on An Khe Pass section passing through the district. Currently, the construction unit is handling the incident.
"The district has also repeatedly requested the construction unit to have a plan to ensure safety for people traveling on the route during the project implementation process," he said.
Speaking to Lao Dong, Mr. Le Ngoc Nam - Executive Director of the Project to Enhance Traffic Connectivity in the Central Highlands, Project Management Board 2 (Ministry of Transport) said that the rock and soil rolled onto the road at the location where the unit was digging for project construction. As reported, on December 12 and 13, the section of National Highway 19 through An Khe Pass was flooded and landslides caused traffic congestion for many hours.
The flooded and landslide location is where the construction unit is opening a new route across the old National Highway 19 at Km64+800 under the Central Highlands Traffic Connectivity Enhancement Project, through An Khe Pass.
It is known that the Central Highlands Traffic Connection Enhancement Project has a total route length of about 143.6km (Binh Dinh province 17km, Gia Lai province 126.34km), with a total project investment of about 155.8 million USD, with Project Management Board 2 as the investor.
