Quang Ngai currently has more than 4,890 fishing vessels with a total capacity of 1.81 million CV; of which more than 2,900 vessels are over 15 m long, specializing in offshore fishing. This is one of the localities with the largest fishing fleet in the country.
While many people are excitedly preparing for holidays with family and relatives on the occasion of National Day, at fishing ports in Quang Ngai, ships are still busy preparing fuel, ice, food, and necessities to continue going offshore.
At noon on August 25, at Sa Ky fishing port, Mr. Luong Van Tri - captain of boat QNg 92215 TS and 12 fishermen were busy preparing for a new sea trip. Some checked machinery, some transported ice, fuel, necessities and necessary items onto the boat.
After completing the work, the ship started engines and left the shore, heading straight to the Hoang Sa fishing grounds to exploit seafood. The sea trip is expected to last about half a month, which means that the 13 fishermen on board will not have holidays with their families like many others.
Mr. Tri said that the fishing profession has its own characteristics. When the ship is in a fishing trip, whether it is a normal day or a holiday, fishermen still have to stick to the sea, take advantage of favorable weather to fish and return to the fish-filled holds.
For fishermen, only during the Lunar New Year do we try to go ashore to rest and reunite with our families. Although we also want to stay home with our wives and children, the fishing profession is already attached to us. Going to sea is both to make a living and to preserve fishing grounds," Mr. Tri shared.
Next to Mr. Tri's boat, Mr. Tran Minh Nghia's fishing boat, residing in Dong village, An Vinh commune, Ly Son special zone, is also busy refueling, transporting ice and preparing essential supplies to go offshore to buy seafood in the Hoang Sa fishing grounds.
Mr. Nghia said that on the occasion of National Day September 2nd, seafood consumption demand usually increases, especially at markets, restaurants and business locations serving people and tourists. Therefore, this is also the time for fishing vessels and seafood purchasing vessels to take advantage of going offshore.
Every National Day, seafood sells quite well, so I take advantage of going out to sea to buy and bring it ashore to sell to traders. Fishing boats also go to sea more, when I go to buy, I have more income and help fishermen consume seafood right at sea, without having to wait for boats to dock," Mr. Nghia shared.
According to Mr. Nghia, to be able to stick to the sea for many days, purchasing vessels must prepare enough fuel, ice and necessary items. When fishing vessels exploit seafood, they will approach to purchase it right in the fishing grounds, then transport it ashore for consumption.
