After the ceremony - with the announcement and awarding of the Resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the establishment of Dong Trieu City under Quang Ninh province and receiving the First Class Labor Medal - there was a special art program and fireworks display to celebrate.
In addition to delegates from the Central Government, Quang Ninh Province, Dong Trieu City and units, businesses, investors, and localities with relations with Dong Trieu, it is expected that about 6,500 city residents will attend the ceremony. Invitations will be distributed to departments, offices, units, and People's Committees of communes and wards of Dong Trieu City.
Previously, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man signed Resolution No. 1199/NQ-UBTVQH15 dated September 28, 2024 of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the arrangement of district and commune-level administrative units of Quang Ninh province for the period 2023 - 2025.
In which, Dong Trieu city is established on the basis of the entire natural area of 395.95 km2 and population of 248,896 people of Dong Trieu town.
At the same time, merge Tan Viet commune into Viet Dan commune to become Viet Dan commune and merge Dong Trieu ward into Duc Chinh ward to become Duc Chinh ward. Establish Binh Duong, Thuy An, Binh Khe, Yen Duc wards.
Dong Trieu City was established with 19 administrative units at the commune level, including 13 wards: Duc Chinh, Hung Dao, Xuan Son, Kim Son, Mao Khe, Hong Phong, Trang An, Yen Tho, Hoang Que, Binh Duong, Thuy An, Binh Khe, Yen Duc and 6 communes: Nguyen Hue, Viet Dan, An Sinh, Trang Luong, Hong Thai Dong, Hong Thai Tay.
Regarding administrative boundaries, the East of Dong Trieu city borders Uong Bi city; the West borders Chi Linh city of Hai Duong province; the South borders Kinh Mon town of Hai Duong province and Thuy Nguyen district of Hai Phong city; the North borders Son Dong and Luc Nam districts of Bac Giang province.
According to the above Resolution, Dong Trieu becomes the 5th city of Quang Ninh province, from November 1, 2024.
Before Dong Trieu, Quang Ninh province had the following cities: Ha Long, Uong Bi, Cam Pha, Mong Cai.
It is expected that in 2025, Quang Ninh province will have another city - Quang Yen city.
