In the 64th minute of the second leg of the ASEAN Cup final between Vietnam and Thailand, the home team unexpectedly scored a goal to raise the score to 2-1 after Supachok scored from outside the penalty area.
However, before that, the Vietnamese team proactively pushed the ball out when a player in red was lying on the field. Supachok did not return the ball but instead kicked the ball into the goal.
Immediately, Tuan Hai, Duy Manh, Quang Hai and many Vietnamese players reacted and had discussions with the main referee Ko Hyung Jin to explain this situation.
The Korean referee himself also directly discussed something with the Thai coaching staff and players, causing the match to be interrupted for more than 10 minutes.
After the match, a Vietnamese player revealed that at that time, referee Ko Hyung Jin said that "Thailand could have let Vietnam score 1 goal because the way Supachok kicked the ball into the opponent's net was not appropriate".
However, Supachok and his teammates flatly refused this offer. When the Vietnamese team served the ball and waited for their opponent's move, the home team continued to rush in to steal the ball.
In the post-match press conference, coach Kim Sang-sik also shared: "Regarding Thailand's second goal, this was not fair play, not a proper goal. Anyway, we won."
Meanwhile, when asked about this situation, coach Ishii replied briefly: "That was a beautiful goal."
Regarding this goal, the Thai team played a lack of fair play, but according to the rules, they did not commit a foul. Supachok scored a valid goal, the ball was in play and there was no collision. The referee had no choice but to allow the goal.
Normally, if teams have a fair-play spirit, they will accept letting the opponent score again right after the kick-off.
