According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, water levels at stations on rivers and canals in the Southern region have been falling rapidly in recent days and are at low levels.
The situation of saltwater intrusion in the southwestern provinces is taking place, the maximum salinity measured at most stations is higher than the same period in 2024 and the average of many years.
In particular, the Vam Co River, Co Chien River and Hau River branches are smaller than the same period and the average of many years. The salinity intrusion boundary is about 35-40 km from the mouth of the Tien River and about 28-30 km from the mouth of the Hau River.
The weather in the South during the Lunar New Year 2025 is quite stable, with little chance of rain, not too high temperatures, cool nights, favorable for spring activities.
The high tide situation in Ho Chi Minh City and some provinces in the West will decrease rapidly in the next 2-3 days, then the high tide will rise again. The highest peak tide during Tet holiday is likely to appear on January 30 - February 1.
For the Ho Chi Minh City area (at Phu An and Nha Be stations), the water level will be approximately at alert level II. The downstream stations on the rivers of the Southwest region such as Can Tho and My Thuan stations will fluctuate at alert level I-II. High water levels can cause flooding in low-lying areas, along the river and affect traffic and socio-economic development in the area.
