On the morning of August 20, monitoring on satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning data showed that convective clouds are developing, causing showers with thunderstorms and lightning in many areas.
Areas with thunderstorms include Binh Tien, Tan My, Tan Hung, Phu Dinh, Dien Hong, Ben Cat wards...
In the next 3 hours, convective clouds will continue to develop and cause showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in the above areas. After that, the thunderstorm area is likely to expand to neighboring areas. Common rainfall is 5-20 mm, in some places over 30 mm.
During thunderstorms, it is necessary to watch out for tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind at level 5-7 (8-17 m/s). Heavy rain can cause localized flooding, affecting traffic and daily life.
The weather pattern causing thunderstorms is due to a low pressure trough with its axis through the North combined with a Southwest monsoon operating from medium to strong intensity, causing convective clouds to develop in the South.
On August 20th and 21st, the South will be generally cloudy, at times cloudy during the day, with light sunshine. Showers and thunderstorms may appear right from the morning and noon in some places, concentrated in An Giang, Dong Thap, North Tay Ninh and Dong Nai.
The highest temperature during the day is commonly 29-32 degrees C, especially in the Lam Dong plateau area about 25-28 degrees C.
By the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms increase, coinciding with rush hour. Many places have showers and thunderstorms, scattered moderate rain, in some places heavy rain; areas with high rain likely to be concentrated in Dong Nai and Lam Dong.
In thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind, which can cause traffic obstruction, tree felling and potential danger. People need to proactively monitor weather developments, limit moving through deeply flooded areas or areas with trees, billboards and unsafe structures.
On August 22nd, the weather shows signs of reducing rain. The South still has scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the late afternoon and evening; some places have moderate to heavy rain.
